Joel Freedman directed and produced a wide range of films documentary films and videos on important social issues including drug abuse, the struggle of native people to survive today, poverty, social justice,as well as art. His films include BROKEN TREATY AT BATTLE MOUNTAIN, TO PROTECT MOTHER EARTH (each narrated by Robert Redford), BRAINSTORM with Natalie Wood, Chrstopher Walken, SKEZAG (Vietnam veterans and the world of drugs), EVEN IF A HUNDRED OGRES...Joanne Woodward, SAM'S WAR, THE FOREST SPIRITS, JEREMY (jazz genius, flutist/painter, and the new film-in-progress LAND OF THE BRAVE. They have been shown worldwide, theatrically and on television (Sixty Minutes, CBS, NBC.ABC, PBS, Discovery, German TV, BBC, CBC, ARD, NDR, NRK, NHK & more). His films have won critical acclaim. He has won many grants and awards. Mr. Freedman holds a B.A. and an MFA degree in Motion Picture Production and Direction from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, where he taught motion picture production as Adjunct Professor of Film and Television. He has lectured  on filmmaking at many universities, as well as The AFI (Hollywood) and AFI Kennedy Center, The Film Society of Lincoln Center and more. He served as an advisory panelist in film & video for The New York State Council on the Arts and the International Monitor Awards. He is a founding member of The Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers (AIVF). He is the President of We Make Movies, LLC – a filmmaker owned distribution company and Cinnamon Productions, Inc., both film/television production companies.
